crocodiles – summer of hate

btw-crocodiles

Out next week on April 28th comes the debut LP Summer of Hate from Crocodiles, clocking in at a brisk 34 minutes. This art-punk droned out album releases on the heels of their breakthrough single “Neon Jesus,” from 2008 and much praise from friends No Age. The lead single off the LP, “I Wanna Kill” delivers on their early success and “Soften Skull,” has influences of their fellow tourmates in The Faint. Do I like it? Yes. Do I love it? No, but it’s a definite recommendation to check out some of their tunes and possibly buy their album. Crocodiles are playing April 22nd with The Faint and Ladytron at the Granada in Dallas, TX.

so a change is gonna come here at WTD.  free wordpress blogs limit our creative minds for turning weekly tape deck into its own brand.  bear with me/us, i actually will be devoting most of my time to the framework of the new page while nic and jordy will be adding posts as they see fit.  i hope to have everything up and running by next week.

flying lotus vs a gay fish

gayfish

Yes, Kanye is the genius voice of a generation.  Yes, Kanye likes to put fishsticks in his mouth.  He’s a gay fish.  Flying Lotus has remixed Kanye’s “Love Lockdown”.  It is not gay, or a fish.  I’d put the track up here, but the folks at RCRDLBL have kindly asked that I post this link instead… remix here.

sonic youth – sacred trickster

Ahh, a refreshing return to their 90’s form.  Vocally dominated by Kim Gordon, Sonic Youth single “Sacred Trickster” takes me back to the Daydream Nation(Top 5 album) times.  This tune will be released on the forthcoming LP The Eternal on June 8th for their first time with Matador.  Yeah, they’re even doing this whole Buy Now Get Early deal where you get posters, mp3s, vinyl, and other cool collectibles to make you feel like you are a true fan and better than everyone else.

============

Speaking of a “top 5 album”, we need to come up with our “all time” list here at WTD.  You guys barely know anything about us!  I’m thinking like a 25 list of albums that “make me happy” or something like that.  What are your top albums?  Leave us a comment and let us know!

deradoorian – weed jam

deradoorianWe’ve already posted a track (Dirty Projectors – Stillness Is The Move) from the phenomenal forthcoming Dirty Projectors album Bitte Orca. That album comes out via Domino on June 9. We have thus far neglected, however, to mention Dirty Projectors member Angel Deradoorian’s new solo project, Deradoorian. Lovepump United will release her Mind Raft EP on May 5. The opening track Weed Jam may not be the best track from the EP, but I find myself going back to it again and again. Even though Deradoorian doesn’t sing any actual words on this track, her voice and the general vibe totally call to mind Grace Slick on White Rabbit. Perfectly titled song. Available for your listening pleasure below…

shows redux

dan-deacon1

Saturday 4/18: Dan Deacon:  I predict there will be some crazy setup for this show out in the sculpture garden.  A huge glowing skull sculpture?!? Should be one that if you are around the area, definitely make your way there.  Museum of Modern Art – Fort Worth, TX

Sunday 4/19: Teenage Cool Kids:  When they aren’t battling copyright infringement from Chicago’s own Cool Kids, the teenage version play some rather great music.  A worthy Sunday night show for those who will make the drive north of the metroplex.  Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios – Denton, TX
